Operations
Elotero is a React-Native iOS and Android social media app built on React Native, Node/Parse Server and MongoDB. The back-end is written in (async) Node via the Parse SDK and utilizes MongoDB for its database layer. The back-end has integrations with (Free Tier) Amazon S3 for user submitted media content (images). Images are automatically scanned for NSFW content upon upload. The back-end also has SMS integrations for user account creation and account recovery purposes via the FreeClimb SMS API.
The app comes shipped with English and Spanish translations.
The infrastructure is on DigitalOcean (except for AWS S3 noted above) via Droplets. I have a Load Balancer setup.
Total operating costs is approximately 45$ per month for SMS API Quota and DigitalOcean costs.
Customers
Users can download Elotero via the Android or Apple App Stores. Thus far, Elotero is setup exclusively for the U.S. The app just launched about a month ago with no marketing conducted.
Financials
The app is completely free with no ads. The app can be monetized via advertisements if need be or by other means.
Additional Notes
Elotero is a social media app that connects consumers with street food vendors.
Elotero was an idea I cultivated living in the Southern California region. Yelp is a great platform but I wanted to make an app tailored for street food vendors who do not reside in a physical address. Elotero currently supports the following street food vendors:
- Corn on the cob
- Ice cream
- Taco
- Tamale
- Shaved Ice
- Soft Drink
- Hotdog
- Popcorn
- Food Truck
- Miscellaneous
There are two types of user accounts. Consumers and vendors. Consumers can temporarily mark vendors they spot on the interactive map while out and about in the real-world for others to find. That marked vendor will disappear after a few hours. Consumers can mark themselves as a vendor via the Options screen and by doing so they gain the ability to broadcast their current GPS location and notify consumers that they are open for business. Consumers can:
- Post reviews on vendors
- Like vendors
- Follow vendors
- Report vendors
- Post threads on vendor profiles (if they follow the vendor)
- Vendors can also post content on their profile feed, such as the merchandise they are selling.
